An Evening to Remember and Breakfast to Share w/ Robert Diggs, AKA RZA in Minneapolis

The Commentary of Drunken Master RAO

There are those times in life, when you have to take a chance and when I was working in Minneapolis on a wrongful death police shooting case of a black young man
in 2004, I was about to leave town when I saw that the leader of the Wu Tang Klan was going to do a solo concert in the Modern City of the Upper Midwest, at a local upscale night club in town.

Also, earlier that same trip, I had met a very attractive young black woman, a young woman who herself had been a victim of police brutalitly and had sought to seek a formal review of the same from the local officials and she had done so with much focus, dedication and soft but serious intelligence.

This woman came to mind as I saw the add in the paper for the concert and I thought she just may want to see RzA in concert...and ..well...sometimes, as stated, one has to take a chance......we did not know each other much at all and it was a great risk to even call her and speak to her...about the same...much less to ask her to go to the concert...w/ a...well, sort of funky white guy...

but sometimes,, in life...taking risk..does have its rewards...and this time, it worked....The young beautiful girl listened to my requests to spend a evevning with her first at dinner and then attend with her at my side, the unique special solo RzA concert...

and with that, we met and went and had the dinner and then we went to the concert...

I'm so glad that she decided to join me that evening because without her, I probably would not have had the next amazing experience of my life in terms of spending time w/ a major national sized talent

all in one way...but for something this date, was more than willling to do for me...during the concert...[and no it was not anything what some guys would think...]

she in a word...believed my story and in a word, believed in my work...and she had spoken some very special words of comfort to me, about my work on police brutality cases and issues..and she noted how as a young black woman, this meant something to her, to see a white guy so devoted to the cause of what all too often, is perceived as "a black issue" mainly...in america [but isn't really if the truth were known...]

simply seeing my connection and believing in my story, and my background she literally took my business card and then did something very special with it...

she went down front...waited for the right moment..and all six feet 2 of her...and her long legged beauty...got up and began to dance on stage w/ the RZA...and by doing so...

she caught his [and everyone else's attention] in the crowd...she was something to witness and when she danced...she altogether as memesmizing as was RzA' rap...and music...and all h..began to break lose ...w/ the crowd...as this moment seemed to break open the concert...even the seriously beautiful..young dancers already w/ RzA began to dance even better...sensing they had not so much competition but a true beauty like them....opening up the crowd to what they already had been contributing to the evening...

but what truly was special...my date, like she said she would, took the business card I, in a very loyal and intelligent manner, [she could have forgotten about me and simply paid very serious attention to the WU leader...but instead..she listened and did even better than i expected...she took my card and placed it into the hand of RZA, just at the right bump and grind moment...

and with that....

a very special thing happened...next...

the live, in person solo special appareance concert....was halted...
and ..this amazing nationally recognized 'quincy jones of rap' stopped the show...

literally...music dancing and all...and simply stared for a moment...
and then asked...

"olivito...where are you..."...looking out over the crowd and pearing into the stage lights with his hands towards his eyes...

I reluctantly but firmly raised my hands...near the back of the audience...and
he smiled..and said...

"richard...you are here, in minneapolis? meet me soon back stage...won't you?"

and he gave me the wu finger signs....and i knew we had just the right mix happening....

...my date...for the evening ...was also kind of mildly surprised...she smiled and danced a dance...after that...that knocked...even the RZA off his balance and his own dancers had to take a bow to her...

and...after the concert...

we did, indeed...meet the man...and legend...and the young man, whom my own brother once before he became so famous..and so legendary in the modern music industry...

represented inside a jefferson county common pleas court room on a rather trumped up...heavy handed but very serious criminal charge, for which Robert Diggs ...after testifying in his own defense, in front of a all white jury...very well..

was completely aquitted...

my brother and i watched this occur and afterwards, this young man from the streets of Steubenville and Brooklyn....told us...at a very young age...that he was..that day...some 14 years prior...

"i'm going to be famous one day..."

and here he was....post fame, post his multimillion dollar music career...and his brillant marketing strategy for all of his klan...

and he was solo, stripped down..and raw...and he was more than happy to

see me and talk to me and invite me ...not just back stage that evening...

but...to meet him at breakfast the next morning...w/ my same date....
at a local [very nice] hotel's lobby...on him...

...we met...and Robert Diggs...in person...was as nice and as intelligent and as geniune a human being...as i ever saw...in any major personality and celebrity...or for that matter...any person..i ever met...

he was indeed, the same young man that i had met...w/ just alot more maturity and expreience and quite a life story ..now behind him...

literally...a rags to riches...story and something simply amazing to be with ...even for a very long breakfast.

and he was geniune...again...and this is what struck me the most about him...humble and geniune and...in a word
very real....

but..it was a moment in minneapolis...and with my date...and with the way this meeting would take place

it was one..that would not be forgotten....and we spoke then...of making plans on how to raise awareness of the issues that were near and dear to my heart...

later, somethings did not quite gell as i had planned and discusssed with Robert that morning...in Minneapolis, with my date, near my side...

but nonetheless...on a personal level...the discussion did continue and the ideas were not to die

and he again..would personally extend himself to invite me...to visit with him..in LA and again w/ him in other settings...

i hope...all things..otherwise...are well...

time has passed since that evening...and how that special date...went down...
I miss the moment..in some ways...because it was a vulnerable and uncertain one...

but one, that for once in life, when i took a chance on both...attempting a special date w/ a beauty...

and w/ trying to reconnect to a current rap east coast legend...
both ended in....one very special memory for all of us...

Long live the Wu...and long live the young beautiful caring and loyal [black girl] dates of the world...and all kudros..and all peace and love...

to one very geniune young man..named...Robert Diggs...
